A Sour Season Comes to a Close!
Final Match 28 May 2007

The run is over for FC Messina in Serie A! FC Messina has been relegated to Serie B as we have known for weeks now, along with Ascoli and Chievo. Inter takes the Serie A Scudetto,  AS Roma takes home the Coppa Italia and AC Milan conquers Europe with the 2-1 win over Liverpool for Champions League title in Athens.

The Giallorossi suffered a very weak season with numerous coaches changing hands of leadership over the team and early injuries to such players as Riganò early in the season chipped away at the teams chances of surviving the Italian Serie A another season. Trade talks are already in motion with talks of Riganò possibly making a move to AS Roma and as we already know, Zoro is heading for Portugal to Benifica. Other players are in the talks as well, however, it looks like our Giallorossi at FC Messina will be in the market for the up coming season as well to make the move back in to the Top Flight from Serie B next season with some new talent to be added to the roster. The biggest news, however, is from FC Messina President Franza who has put the FC Messina franchise up for sale at a price of circa 250 Million Euros, so we can expect many changes to the team over the summer.

Watch for all the upcoming changes here at FCMessina.us over the summer as well as all the pre-season matches as always. To all of our loyal FCMessina.us fans, a very special thanks for following the action with us and we hope to see you soon!!

Farewell to Re Artù
26 July 2007

Messina says farewell to Arturo Di Napoli who signed with Salernitana, Di Napoli was with our Sicilians from 2003 and helped us reach the top flight from Serie B to A.  Di Napoli signed a contract with the Lombard squad of Salernitana, for three years and our former striker has already reached his new squad companions who are in training in Roccaporena.

Also regarding changes to our Messina squad another transfer was carried out for Center Fielder Flavio Lazzari from Udinese who has joined our Giallorossi in summer training camp.  The football player was signed on with a temporary contract giving Messina the rights of sharing (trading) the player with other clubs.

Messina Relegated To Serie D
The Sicilian side will have to start all over again from the amateur league of Serie D...

02 August 2008 - The Biancoscudati were disappointing both on and off the pitch last term. After a relatively good start to the campaign last season, Messina finished in mid-table and attendances were low. No investors were willing to come forward after the Franza family (who own the club) were unable to cover all of the accumulated debt and it became official that the club would be excluded from Serie B on July 14, 2008.
However, Messina's financial collapse has worsened as the club could not even come up with the funds to secure a place in Serie C2, and they will now start from Serie D.
The team has been home to some well-known Italian players in the past like Salvatore Schillaci, Igor Protti and Nicola Amoruso. Now, all current players have been made redundant under the rules of the Italian Football Federation.
Messina were in Serie A as recently as 2007, finishing in last position, and were in Serie D as recently as the '93-'94 season when they also failed to meet the requirements necessary to play in Serie C.
Farewell FC Messina!
Aug. 26, 2008

Many thanks to the Franza Family for managing the FC Messina Franchise to the very bottom of a black-hole!

All of us who follow Messina politics closely knew this was the direction Franza was driving the team, it is as if a rival fan bought the team and did every thing possible to destroy the very fabric of the Messina Calcio we knew. Here's what happened:

FC Messina (Franza) failed to find a new owner to buy our beloved FC Messina (asking price: 4.5 million Euro), thus driving the FC Messina franchise to bankruptcy. Now, until July this meant that FC Messina would be pushed down into Serie C elevating Avellino to Serie B. Well the nightmare came true.....it got worse! Franza was unable to even find a buyer for the FC Messina license by the end of July causing the franchise to plunge to Serie D. If you think that's bad? your wrong, it gets worse... The FC Messina franchise, uniform, colors, banners, players, fans and very essence have been wiped from the soccer map for good since the team license has not been acquired! Though we had something similar occur in the early 90's, this makes that look great to us looking back. Unfortunately, a recovery is going to be nearly impossible causing FC Messina to dissolve and disappear from the beautiful world of soccer. To all the players and fans, thanks for the great memories from all of us at FCMessina.us. We hope that somehow a miracle occurs, but until than, good bye FC Messina you will be missed!!

A miracle has occurred! FC Messina has been inserted into Serie D (Girone I). This is good news for us being that we were steps away from being abolished from Italian soccer all together. We will alert you with any new updates from the wire as they come in.
